What is TED?
TED stands for technology, entertainment and design. TED in a non-profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. TED started 26 years ago as a conference in California and has since grown to include talks by many of the world’s leading thinkers and doers including, Bill Gates, Al Gore and Sheryl Sandberg. TED shares the talks from TED conferences around the world on its website A new TED Talk is posted every weekday.

What is TEDx?
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The goal of TEDxRegina is to create an opportunity for engaged, passionate people to join together and share ideas, challenge each other and make new connections.

On June 4, 2013, TEDxRegina was held at the University of Regina. In its second year, TEDxRegina was attended by over 250 people. A new addition to this year’s event was the addition of the TEDx Regina Lab.

The purpose of the Lab was to create another opportunity for attendees to connect during and after the speaker presentations. We participated by featuring a beautiful pop-up gallery created by our preparator, Michael Rankin. We showcased the work of Sheila Kernan. We were thrilled to have Sheila in attendance with us for the day. Along with some recent paintings on display, Sheila also brought along items that have inspired her own creative process over the years. Sketch books, quotes, work by other artists and even some of her own very early work. We had a fantastic time talking art with many of the TEDxRegina attendees.

The highlight of the day was listening to the eight featured speakers. All the speakers were from Regina and eloquently and enthusiastically shared what they are most passionate about. It was a pleasure to hear from these inspiring men and women. In a couple of weeks, you will be able to view all the talks on the TEDxRegina website .

We were delighted to have the opportunity to be part of TEDxRegina. Many thanks to the team of volunteers led by co-Chairs Jeff Vall and Nevin Danielson for putting on such a great day for all the participants.
